a wonderful handmade wedding is so great because of its handmade details.
This is my first go at helping give all of you, my lovely friends, unique and cost effective ideas for your wedding. Im not sure if it will be weekly, or more randomly, but just hang in there with me as I figure it out!
I gave jared a wood burning kit for christmas. and it has turned into one of his favorite things to do. now before you start thinking you can’t do this, its not difficult. You start with a blank piece of wood, your wood burning tool (click here,) graphite paper, a pencil, and your design. You trace your design onto the wood using the graphite paper, so it leaves an impression. Then using the wood burning tool, you trace the design one more time over the impression you made with the graphite paper. You can then leave the natural wood, or stain it. very simple.
What I like most about this project is that:
- you only need a little practice.
- it’s very versatile. pick any design you like. any shape of wood you like. any size of wood you like. stain it. dont stain it.
- it’s very affordable.
- it’s not over done in the wedding industry.
And, it can work into a couple different styles of weddings. No, it probably wont work for a more elegant, hotel wedding, but it will work for any outdoor wedding. You can pick more rustic pieces of wood, that still have the bark on them, or you can pick more modern pieces of balsa wood, example here. You can use them as seating cards, table numbers, or have strings of them hanging around the altar or from the ceiling. the possibilities are endless!
Or if the idea of doing this for your wedding stresses you out, but you still like it…make something for a friend. like bride and groom chair signs, or a thank you sign they can use for their pictures, or just their new last name in a great font. really, the possibilities are endless. so, let me know what you think! or if you have any other sweet ideas for a wood burning tool, id love to hear about it!
