Wedding Arsenal.

by Lauryn on August 16, 2012 in Business

This is kind of new type of post today!  I have never done something like this, so tell me if you like it!

I wanted to show you what I bring with me to each wedding, as far as gear goes.  I also bring my laptop, card reader, 2nd shooter, and hopefully Jared.  But none of those things photographed as well so they got cut.  I am in the camp of: dont make it too complicated.  Do I want the 50mm 1.2? Yeah, of course.  But, my 85mm 1.2 does super well for portraits and I think the quality of it matches my brand, so for now I dont purchase an additional portrait lens.  Will I one day? Eh, maybe. Dont make things too complicated.

This is what gets packed in the car each wedding (along with the 2nd Shooter, Laptop, and Jared, dont forget…) The Pelican carries all the camera gear, the Camera Bag is empty at the start, and I bring the Tripod for Ring Shots.  I will be sharing with you soon how I do Ring Shots! Also, I bring 1 light stand.  I will also soon be sharing my lighting set up!  Now, into the Pelican…

I only bring 4 lenses with me to each wedding.  The 35 and 85 handle Portraits.  The 70-200 handles the Ceremony.  The Macro handles Details and Ring Shots, and lastly the 35 handles the Reception.  Bing, bang, boom.  I bring 2 flashes.  One goes on the light stand, one goes on my camera. I bring a lot of batteries because I have not switched to rechargeables yet.  My Mark II’s battery lasts all day, but just in case I always bring the charger.

So that is my wedding weaponry!  Ask any questions you might have in the comment section!

Hey Lauryn!
I’m beginning the search to finding the perfect portrait lens…and I’m getting a lot of mixed reviews. Would you suggest I purchase a 50mm 1.8 or a 35mm 1.8? I would love to purchase a lens with a 1.4 but I’m on a budget.

@Jordon I found both on Pinterest. I searched Free PS Arrows, and Handwritten Font. Hope that helps!

@Ashley Well, the 35 is not a portrait lens, BUT depending on the camera you use, it can be. If you have a crop sensor, the 35 in essence becomes 50(ish)mm. If its on a full frame, its just plain ol’ 35. So I would say get the 50mm, but that depends on your camera! The 50mm will become 65(ish)mm which is still in the portrait range. Hope that helps!

That is literally (down to the pelican carrier) what we bring to EVERY wedding. Sometimes we spice it up with a 16-35 if Matt is feeling saucy but thats neat!! Haha, twinsies! :D

Awesome post! I love the simplicity of it all…bing, bang, boom! When you’re ready for rechargable batteries, Eneloop 2500′s are the bomb. Thanks again!!!
