Remember my goals? Well, one of them was to purchase a lot of gear this year. I have been happily renting gear for the past two years, and it has worked out really well for me. I am able to use top of the line equipment and not drain my account. However, as I am sure everyone would agree, once you have rented for quite some time there comes a point when it truly is time to invest in your own stuff. For me, that is this year. There will be a lot more welcome to the family posts in the future!
Here is what I bought this time: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens, Canon Speedlite 580EX II, Oden AC-1320 3-Section Aluminum Tripod with BA-1 Ball Head, and an Impact Air Cushioned Heavy Duty Light Stand, Black – 13′ (4m).
I didn’t photograph the light stand or tripod. They basically look the same anyhow.
Im really excited about the flash because I get to learn more about it. Another one of my goals is implementing off camera lighting and this is one step in that direction!
And this thing is awesome. Combined with the tripod, ladies your ring shots are going to be bangin! Woop!
My next purchase I am super pumped about. Just a couple weeks now! Anyone else purchasing equipment? What did ya get?

Just got a 50mm and loving it. Still lots to learn, but having the right gear helps
ohhh, I love my 100 macro! last year was a big year for me in terms of purchasing equipment and I promised to scale it down this year, but I’ve just discovered studio lighting so I’ve already broken my promise. My next purchase if going to be an AlienBee and a 34″ octagonal softbox! SO excited to use it for a boudoir shoot!
Ahhh that’s awesome!! I feel like I am stalking your blog this week, but congrats on the new gear! I’m saving up to buy an 85 1.8, 35 1.4, 580ex, and 50 1.2. I can’t wait to see what else you get!!
Bought the 50mm/1.2 last November and I LOVE it! Last time I really shot with a fixed 50 was when I was in school shooting film… I had a 50mm/1.8 for my EOS system that was inexpensive, but only used a handful of times (mostly to shoot bands) because I just wasn’t crazy about the images I was getting with it.
Not sure what’s next on the purchase list… lens or camera. Might pick up a 5D2 when the next version of it comes out (shooting with a 1D3 now). Other than that… pretty well set for now!

Sadly, I had to buy a charger for my battery this week. I misplaced the one that came with my camera. Super bummer to spend money replacing something I should have been more responsible with. But I need to be charged for Breakfast with the Presidents tomorrow morning. It’s an interactive program in Colonial Williamsburg with Presidents Washington, Jefferson, and Madison. Can’t wait!
