Office Update: #5

by Lauryn on February 21, 2011 in Business,Personal

Over the weekend we finally got around to painting the chalkboard wall. We have just been lazy and putting it off since we didnt have the materials for the shelf. but we finished it!

First we taped off the space where it was going to go…

Then we painted with the chalkboard paint…

We pulled the tape off while the paint was still wet.  This is a very important step to avoid the paint from seeping past the tape and to avoid a fuzzy line.  Well, as you can see, our line still had some paint seepage.  Just in a couple spots.  Side note- we have very old plaster walls (about 90 years old) and you can definitely see the imperfections.  But we love the character it adds, even though it makes painting difficult since the walls are nowhere near level and flat.

In comes Jared with the baby paint brush…

Some detail shots after everything was moved back to its spot…

And ta-da!

We didn’t write anything on it yet because we want to give the paint atleast a full 24 hours to dry.  We also bought the shelf and are working on getting that up and running.  It will go about 4 inches above the chalkboard with some storage baskets. Post coming soon.  Stay tuned!!

The office is looking great!
I love the chalkboard wall idea. A neighbor of mine did it in her kitchen; I’d didn’t think of it in an office-nice!

hey, it looks great; i kind of want to paint that chalkboard paint everywhere! one thing i’ve read that you can do to avoid paint seepage underneath the tape is this: once you have the area taped off, you should paint over the boundary line that the tape creates with, in this case, the white of your wall, and it creates a seal. so if any paint seeps underneath the paint, it is the color of the white wall and not your chalkboard paint. i have never tried this, but i’ve heard it works!
