Hollywood Cemetery.

I love my city.  A lot.  Richmond is such a fun place to live, and although I do frequently dream about living in a smaller mountain town (Charlottesville, Lexington…) I really love where we live.  One of my favorite things to do is to learn about the history of Richmond, so way back in May we headed up to Hollywood Cemetery and I brought my camera.  This might seem creepy to some of you, but I really like cemeteries.  And it was fun to photograph it a bit.  We barely walked the huge cemetery, but we did make it to the river side which was my main goal for going.  Jared’s parents were with us and were mesmerized by the age of the trees.  They are all huge and wide and obviously very very old.  When you live in a city most of the trees are quite young so it was fun to see such old trees!

There are many stories about Iron Dog, but my favorite is that the little girl who is buried here loved the statue so much, its owner gave it to her family to guard her grave.  Not this nonsense about saving the statue because the military would have melted it to make bullets… That story is silliness.

Its weird to see your name at a graveyard!

I really need to get Jared a more manly bag…

A storm was coming so we headed back.  It was a fun trip…definitely need to go back and try to find some of the more famous graves!

You are getting to be a true Galloway! I have spent time with Grandpa and Jon walking through cemetries. In fact we walked through yesterday here in East Kilbride, Scotland.

It’s so funny that you just posted this. My husband, my parents and I just went there this past Sunday. It is a gorgeous place and definitely worth photographing. Love your blog by the way!
