Green Smoothies.

by Lauryn on August 9, 2012 in Personal

Im one of those people that goes through phases of caring about what I eat. Well, actually, I am always caring, but I go through phases where the taste of Taco Bell just seems so much more important than eating a lot of spinach. And, I really do love spinach. But I go through phases. Recently, I am on a super healthy kick. Whats the best way to get lots of good stuff in your system without much effort in the morning that tastes delicious? Smoothies!

I asked my friend Nikki for her recipe for Green Monster Smoothies, and have been having about 3-4 a week for breakfast. What I love most is that I am getting fruits, lots of spinach, and a protein all in one sip.

Here is her general recipe:

-Huge handful of spinach. Then probably add some more.
-Fruit. This can be any combo you like. I have been doing pineapple/banana lately.
-Plain Greek Yogurt. This helps with consistency and gives you the protein. You can do flavored yogurt if you like that better!
-Cup or so of water.
-Nutritional add ins like wheat germ, flax, honey, chia seeds, etc…

There are tons of smoothie recipes out there, this is just what I have been making lately. Here is a good article on making smoothies that you like: Nutrition Diva. Ive been loving them, and it makes me feel super pumped to start the day. It also is nice to have a cold light breakfast for summer days.

Enjoy!

i buy those big bags of frozen fruit from the grocery store – you can make tons of smoothies from them, and it’s way cheaper than buying fresh fruit (esp berries)! i add in ice, coconut milk, and Arbonne protein powder :) it’s delish for a light dinner to pair with a peanut butter sandwich, or some cashews

I am just starting out on this smoothie, more vegtables, more fruit thing too. I like an almost all vegtable smoothie for breakfast because I feel so virtuous when I am done. Here is my recipe….
Two Cucumbers or Two Zucchini
(4) Stalks of Celery
(1) Tomato
(1) Apple
(1) Whole Lemon
(3) Handfuls of Spinach
(1) Serving spoon of Green Vibrance
Small piece of fresh ginger
