Sommer & Justin: Married!

March 26, 2010

Trader Joes.

March 24, 2010

For those of you that live in Richmond, I am positive that you have heard about Ukrop’s selling out.  Yes, I mean that both ways.  For those of you that don’t know what Ukrop’s is, it is a local grocery chain that has been around for over 70 years and is family owned.  It has the most amazing prepared foods section, and bonus (!) they take your bags out to the car for you.  And if you’re extra special they make home deliveries (I’ve worked there, I know.)   Well, in light of this, Jared and I have been thinking about where we might like to shop instead of Ukrop’s.  We are willing to give the new store that is taking over Ukrop’s, Martins, a chance…but not really.  We know that’s silly but we really love Ukrop’s.  So today we went shopping at Trader Joe’s.  Our friend, Lacy, told us that it has super affordable prices and is like a smaller version of Whole Foods.  These beautiful heirloom tomatoes are from Trader Joe’s.  They smell amazing.  Get stoked Sleddletons because they are going in the salad for our dinner night!

Holga.

March 24, 2010

Okay, okay, I know its silly to take a picture of a picture.  BUT I have an excuse.  I ordered the prints and the CD of the Holga film I had and the CD was from the wrong film! It was neon red and of someone’s skiing trip.  I have been wanting and wanting to post these, I couldn’t wait for them to rescan the negatives.

Isn’t the Holga cool?  I love the blur and burn on the corners.  It handled the backlighting really well too.  I thought it was going to be over exposed, but I think it looks pretty great.  My favorite image is on the left…but you probably knew that already :-)

A Bag.

March 23, 2010

I just got this amazing camera bag! I’m really excited about it, because it holds everything and I can shoot while wearing it.  I rent about 3 lenses per wedding, and its hard to have all those without the proper place to put them.  So, I’m stoked.  Now its not the fancy shootsac, but its similar.  A bit more structured.  A way bit cheaper.  I got to use it at Sommer & Justin’s wedding, and it was AWESOME.

Now it did have velcro, which at a wedding is a big no-no.  So I undid it.  You can see where I tried to undo both sides of the velcro and then stopped.  It was just easier to take off the one side and place it on the other.   It also has alot of space for extra batteries, cards, some papers, etc…  I’m pretty enamored.  :-)

**edit:  Some people have asked about the profit I receive for reviewing products, such as this bag.  No where in the post did I even mention the bags maker or show their logo, I only said the name in the comments.  I do not make any profit off of reviews or products unless noted.

My love.

Alot of people tease Jared about him assisting me during sessions or weddings.  He handles it with grace.  And they are joking after all.  But something he said last night really struck me as lovely.  It made me love him all the more.   Someone said something about Jared being whipped as I asked him to hand me yet another lens, and he said, “No, it’s called being a husband.”  Everyone chuckled.  It was funny.   But I think that is a bold statement.  In a Christian world, the role of husband and wife can sometimes be extremely skewed.  Even the role of man and woman.  Having Jared say that made me feel so secure.  Yes, he is the husband.  But that doesn’t mean he isn’t there to support and protect me also.  I love you Jared!

Here is a peek of the wedding yesterday:

Sommer: Bridals

March 19, 2010

Right now Sommer & Justin are getting married.  They are joining their lives together in front of the Lord, family, and sweet friends.   Sommer has an incredible story, and it is an honor to have her in my life.  She is one of the worship leaders at our church (you HAVE to hear her sing.  you will know that her voice is straight from heaven, not kidding.)    I am so thankful and happy for Justin being in her, and her daughter Bailey’s, lives.  All three are immensely blessed by each other.

I pre-scheduled this post because I have been dying to show you her bridals!  Well, I wont keep talking about it….

I LOVE your laugh Sommer!

We went to The Byrd Theatre for the first part of the session.  As you can see it was established in 1928 and has since been restored.  I’m pretty sure all they need now is 30k to replace the seats!

I should tell you that it was absolutely freezing outside.  I had to edit goosebumps off of her skin on the close ups! Sommer was so great though, she knew we needed the light :-)

LOVE this.

I’m kind of addicted to dramatic images…

We then headed over to Byrd park.

OMGOODNESS, Sommer you are so beautiful!!

Workin’ it.

Love the elegance of this :-)

So I am shooting their wedding right now, but I am so happy to share these! Look for a sneak peek of their wedding really soon!   You like this?  Share it on facebook!

Jessi and Phil

March 13, 2010

This was an truly wonderful experience for me. I assisted alot and photographed some. I think I really needed it. I second shot with Erin Rexroth!  I tentatively emailed several photographers in Virginia, basically begging to come watch them/do anything they asked me to….anything.  Erin was one of the first to respond and she was so sweet and gracious.  Here are some of my images, and you definitely need to check hers out.  She even has a fancy new blog!

Jessi you are so beautiful!!

I watched a ton more than I took pictures.  I only took 360 something!  I also learned alot about business in general.  Erin and her second shooter, Beth gave me so much advice!  And I learned about my personal shooting style.  Watching other photographers made me realize how I interact with clients, does that make sense?  Either way-Erin is awesome!  I can’t wait to see what both of these women accomplish.   Thank you both so so much.  From the bottom of my heart!

Stay With Me!

March 4, 2010

I know it has been WAY too long since I posted on here.  That is a big downfall for new photographers, not having alot to post since you aren’t shooting every weekend.   I am second shooting a wedding this weekend though so I am very excited to learn, grow, and observe. Erin Rexroth has been so kind and generous in allowing me to come with her!  I also recently shot my first bridal session, which I think is my best work so far…but the groom can’t see those! So they will be posted in a couple weeks after Sommer and Justin are married :-) Can’t wait for that!

Anyway…here is something I posted on my personal blog today that I really love….
